I did the same @tompatten208. Followed Readme, looked all over the forums, followed the video guide. Still having the same issue.

Graphic setting wise, i've always been in 800x600 mode. For manually switching to direct x 9, you need to go to your production_Config.ini in the Documents/My Games/Path of Exile folder and manually change the directx_version=11 to 9. I don't know if this actually fixes anything because i still haven't been able to get the bot to run properly.

The bot successfully launches game however the bot proceeds to ignore login and attempt to select character. If the bot is started in game (hideout, town) it will still attempt to select character ad infinitum. If bot is started at character select, it successfully chooses character, but repeats character selection loop.
