Hey, don't know if it's related to your issues at all, but i had similar kind of problems when wlan dongle was plugged in. I know vmware 7.xx has problems with usb devices, well atleast if plugged in usb3.0 ports. Try running without anykind of wlan stuff on in ur host / vmwares if possible.
